Privacy notice

Privacy Collection Notice (PCN)

The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) collects your personal information from the OnBoard Candidate Register to:

  • put your details in a list of people interested in a possible appointment to:
    • a statutory position (i.e. created / written in the law), or
    • a government board or committee
  • give the Minister for Indigenous Australians a list of people to consider when vacancies arise on boards or committees
  • let other government departments look at the list to find people when they have board vacancies
  • talk to you about your questions or interest in a government board appointment
  • talk to the people you listed as references
  • answer any questions you have given us online
  • use website data to make the OnBoard Candidate Register site better
  • contact you if your skills are suitable and to see if you are willing for your name to put forward for consideration along with other candidates
  • arrange background checks, including police checks.

For these reasons, we may share your information with:

  • the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (they help with the OnBoard Candidate Register)
  • the Prime Minister
  • the Minister for Indigenous Australians
  • other government ministers and entities
  • your referees
  • Pharmacy ID.

The NIAA collects the personal information of candidates including:

  • name
  • contact details
  • gender
  • skills and experience
  • opinions about the applicant (from referees if required)

The NIAA collects the personal information of referees, including:

  • name
  • contact details
  • employment information, including job title
  • information about their relationship with the applicant.

We use referee’s personal information to contact them for a reference, if required.

The NIAA collects your sensitive information including your:

  • Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander status
  • disability status.

You can choose to tell us if you identify as Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander. If you say that you do, then you must provide us with proof of Indigeneity.

If you choose not to provide us with your personal information then you will not be able to register on the OnBoard Candidate Register.

We won’t share your information with anyone else outside the NIAA unless you give consent, or if the law says we can.
